Keeping your dog at a healthy weight

Keeping your dog at a healthy weight

We are deep-down dog people. And your dogs’ health is important to us, which is why we create only the best treats & food for them. Read below for tips on how to keep your best friend healthy in 2023.

  1. Set Meal Times + Portions

Did you know a whopping 56% of dogs in the U.S. are obese? Obesity in dogs contributes to a variety of health issues including intestinal issues, recurrent infections, heart disease and more. It may also contribute to cancer.

Free feeding allows your dog to choose how often and how much they eat, but unfortunately they don’t always know when to stop. Feeding your dog a measured amount based on their weight and age 2-3 times a day can ensure they are getting the right food in the right portions.

  1. Adjust for the seasons

Just like you and I, dogs are usually less active in the winter when there’s bad weather outside. Adjusting their food intake slightly during the off-season can help keep those extra pounds off.

Feeding a low calorie treat like our 100% Human Grade + Organic Crunchy Treats is also a great alternative to higher calorie table scraps.

  1. Make food fun

Create food puzzles or ways for your dog to “hunt” and “scavenge” for their food, just like their ancestors would in the wild. Buying a puzzle from the store is a great option, but it can also be as easy as scattering some food on the floor, using feeding time as a training session, or giving them multiple bowls in different areas of the house.

  1. Exercise

Exercising is great for you and your 4-legged best friend! For something casual, try out a daily backyard playtime or a morning walk. If you want to get into a dog sport or hobby, check out your local agility, flyball, or obedience club! There are endless activities to enjoy with your dogs.

Keeping your dog at a healthy weight means a healthier, longer life.
